This Uttoxeter outfit, has been called East Staff’s finest blues export, by the Burton Mail’s music correspondent , backed up by the appearance of the band on the national blues magazine -“Blues in Britain’s” first compilation CD called “Best of British” 2001, featuring an original track from their 1st CD “House of Cards”.

Although the band was formed in 1997, it’s members have crossed musical paths many times over the previous three decades ! as part of Harley Street Blues who supported both Rory Gallagher and Duster Bennett back in the 60s ; and in the 70s, with it’s guitarists both aiding and abetting members of The Climax Blues Band and jazz/rock bands with Andy Richards, whilst the drummer toured and recorded with Dr. Strangely Strange ( but oddly normal ? ) and The Sutherland Brothers Band, reconvening, as members of Jimmy Powell’s Dimensions

The band’s strength lies in the Twin guitars of Dave Faulkner and Pod Malkin, which compliment each other in the style of the Allman Brothers, together with Dave Faulkner’s natural talent for song writing, which often combines a wry humour together with social comment. Such subjects as Hard Drinking, Fast Cars, Jealous wives & husbands, and aspects of anti-social behaviour all find their way into the bands repertoire.

Dave & Pod are ably supported by the bass and drums of multi-instrumentalists Dave Blant and Fred Hopwood, ( AKA The Zydeco Brothers ) who have played together in various Pop, Cajun, Folk R & B and Rock bands for the last twenty five years, throughout Europe, appearing on radio and television, and as session musicians working with Paul McCartney, amongst others ; and who launched Uttoxeter’s own record label, about six years ago, Smalltown Records , with their duo “The Vice-Bishops of Uttoxeter” (albeit without permission from Fry and Laurie) hence the name of the band.
